We began our adventure with some friends from the west coast. I ran into them on the ferry ride over from Patong – this world truly is a small place! The four of us ventured out on see-through kayaks to explore Monkey Beach on the side of the main island. Only thing is, we had a bit of trouble getting there!
As we were coming around the edge of the island, there was a beautiful crevasse that tempted us enough to venture through it. The small gap appeared wide enough for us to fit our kayaks through; I was wrong, however, and my two friends collided with the rocks. The force pierced the plastic, causing water to flood in. By the time we reached the halfway mark to Monkey Beach, they were sinking. I was having a beer in my kayak laughing, but they were freaking out since they were in the middle of the ocean with no help in sight. They flagged down a speedboat coming by, and managed to get a free ride with the broken kayak to Monkey Beach. Here is the video of us going through the crevasse:
At last, we all made it to Monkey Beach on the west side of Phi Phi Island. These little guys were extremely playful!
Just monkeying around…
I captured some cool footage of the monkeys on a few of my Instagram videos. If you want to see more, check out my Monkey Beach: Koh Phi Phi Thailand post.
We left Monkey Island and while kayaking back, I broke my paddle in half (karma?). I swear the adventure never ends. It’s always a struggle…
We decided to continue exploring the outskirts of the island in our kayaks. We eventually beached our kayaks and hiked, then had delicious Thai fish! The next morning, we were meeting our travel blogger friends from Chicago to go on an island-hopping excursion. See you guys in paradise!
